Oriental rugs are more than just floor coverings. They also showcase artistic brilliance, and cultural significance, while often holding sentimental value, as cherished family heirlooms, from regions like Persia, Morocco, Turkey and China. It’s essential to care for these handmade rugs, to maintain their splendor, and worth, over time. To safeguard the allure of your rug for generations, to come follow these recommendations.
Regular vacuuming prevents dirt from embedding into fibres, but aggressive vacuuming can damage hand-knotted rugs. A beater bar or rotating brush should never be used. Vacuum the rug using a light suction level while moving your vacuum in the direction of the pile fibres. Before vacuuming antique or silk rugs, it is advisable to seek professional advice.
The rug suffers from uneven wear and fading because of sunlight exposure, foot traffic, and improper furniture arrangement. Regular rug rotation every few months will distribute light and wear exposure evenly, which helps maintain the rug’s appearance. Rugs located in sunny rooms, or high-traffic areas require special attention through regular rotation.
The intense sunlight exposure causes oriental rugs to lose their bright colours. You should use curtains, blinds or UV-blocking window films to block direct sunlight. Position your rug in locations where it will not face constant daylight exposure throughout the day.
Quick action following spills helps stop permanent stains from forming. Use a clean white cloth to blot spills instead of rubbing while you absorb as much liquid as possible. Use a cold water-dampened white cloth to blot water-based spills. Only use over-the-counter cleaners when they are specifically made for delicate rugs. Contact professionals who provide Rug Cleaning in Rochester Hills whenever you are unsure about the proper treatment.
Pets share our affection for rugs, but they express it through destructive behaviour. The combination of pet claws and chewing, as well as accidents, leads to major damage. Regular nail trimming for your pet, combined with proper placement of food and litter boxes, will protect your rugs. Professional Rug Cleaning in Rochester Hills provides odour removal and bacterial elimination services that preserve your rug fibres during accidents.
Regular maintenance does not prevent embedded dirt and, allergens, and pollutants from building up over time. For complete cleaning and restoration of your rug without damage, you should only trust professionals who have experience in oriental rug care. Do not attempt in-home steam cleaning because it can cause fibres to become too wet and result in dye bleeding. The recommended cleaning method for experts is full immersion wet washing, which provides deep cleaning without harshness.
Small problems such as fraying edges, unravelling fringe, or moth damage should not be overlooked. These small issues can quickly become big problems. Regular inspections can catch damage early. Choose a rug cleaning company that provides expert repair services to protect the rug’s structural integrity and artistic value.
Before storing your rug, you should ensure it is both clean and dry. Roll it (never fold) and wrap it in a breathable material like cotton or muslin cloth. Avoid using plastic as it can trap moisture that may result in the growth of mildews or mold, on your rug. Make sure to keep the rug in a dry location that is raised off the ground and protected from sunlight.
The proper care of oriental rugs requires more than cleaning because it involves protecting a family heirloom. Proper care combined with professional expertise will help your rug remain beautiful throughout multiple generations.
