My wash process is gentle and safe for people and for pets.I use a mild rug shampoo and cold water on all natural fiber rugs, and I use a vinegar soak to “set” rug dyes for cleaning so that I can safely clean the rug. I clean/wash the rugs “personally” and I pay special attention to detail such as colors, pet odors and fringe/tassels. ( Hand Wash Video )
Rugs that have heavy pet odors such as cat urine are soaked in a “plant based” natural product. This product has a neutral pH and also helps in removing those “yellow” stains. All of this is rinsed out thoroughly before a final rinse.
Thorough rinsing is crucial to attaining a “clean fresh” rug. I always add vinegar to my final rinse which neutralizes soap residues. The water is safely removed using a roller and squeegee . ( Rinsing Video )
While the rug is still in the “wash pit” I clean the Fringe/Tassels with a special power sprayer. ( Fringe Cleaning Video ) In many cases the outcome of the fringe depends on the overall appearance of the rug. When cleaning and finishing the ends of a rug, I try to achieve a natural look and feel. I do not over whiten and when a whitener is used, it is safe and will not compromise the fabric.
After the rug is washed and thoroughly rinsed it is taken out of the wash pit by rolling it on to the drying area. This is done by absolutely no stress being put on the foundation of the rug. Once the rug is laid flat I safely remove most of the water with a very powerful vacuum and set up as many blowers/fans as needed to dry the rug. I dry all the rugs Flat so there is no stress on the foundation. ( Drying Video )
Pet stains caused by pet urine (and pet vomit) goes on to your rug hot and acidic. With the heat this causes rug dyes to bleed, it causes the urea in the urine to discolor the fibers yellow, and the acidity “sets” all this damage in place. It is as if the rug has been re-dyed. I can in most cases remove the “yellow” with special spotters and the aid of “sunlight” and or special UV light. ( See Photo )
I also can remove most stains such as coffee, tea, wine etc. Most stain removal is performed after the rug is washed.
I offer two types of Protectors. One for wool fiber protection against those pesky moths And another for wool fiber protection against Oil, Water and Alcohol. They both are Excellent products and Safe.
